I thought it was much better than the last handful. I don’t know if anybody else has noticed this, but I feel like every episode that features the female coroner rather than the male one is always better. Either may hardly be in the episode, but as soon as the male turns up I let out a slight sigh. Anyway, I had not huge problem with how they left things during the summer. It wasn’t a huge cliffhanger, but left things up in the air. Plus it gives you something to look forward to over the summer once September rolls around. I thought both Katic and Fillion did a great job. All of the actors did very well during that scene at Kate’s desk as well. I’ll echo silentbob by saying that I enjoyed Esposito’s comment to Beckett as well.

Share on WhatsApp Castle Castle fans were in for a serious shock Monday when news broke that series star Stana Katic , better known as Captain Kate Beckett, would not be returning to the show next season assuming the ABC procedural gets a ninth season, which is still up in the air. Not only that, but Castle will also be losing series regular Tamala Jones , with both exits reportedly not being the choice of the respective actresses.
We’ve had a few hours now to process, and after going through the stages of grief, we’ve realized that Katic’s departure raises a series of rather confusing questions concerning the future of the series. Given this, we have to wonder: Is Beckett going to die? Yes, we want Beckett to ride off into the sunset like Jack Bauer at the end of 24’s fourth season, but after this rather abrupt announcement, we have to wonder if Beckett is going to die because

Before agreeing to head to the ranch for their honeymoon investigation, Kate works out that Whitney was poisoned there and Ryan tells her that the girl left in a hurry and upset.
Tobias, their toilet-mate, reveals that the girl was hanging around a married Red Bandana employee on the Ranch. Rick finds his married employee and learns that Whitney was not interested in romance but something else.
It follows Rick Castle, played by Nathan Fillion, who is a best selling crime novelist. After killing off his most popular character he was stuck for something new. Still, Locksat is always one step ahead of them, and Castle ends up being kidnapped and drugged. In his drugged state, he apparently can tell no lies, and reveals all the reasons he loves Beckett. Castle: Beckett makes me laugh.
So much so that fans would rather the entire show come to an end than Beckett. Tonight that end came in the form of the Season 8 — and subsequently the series — finale, which was even more of a shock than the news that started the whole thing. And yes, consider very much those quotes sarcastic. It proved to be the final nail in the coffin of a program that had been so fun for six seasons, until it demonstrably lost its way the final two.
Even so, that deterioration of their professional partnership never manifested itself on screen, as the natural chemistry between Castle and Beckett never diminished, even when the program was saddled with such boneheaded plots that sought to slowly steer Castle toward a future without Beckett over a period of a couple of seasons. For those not in the know, Castle centers on a rambunctious playboy novelist, Richard Castle, who gets so inspired by Beckett, a savvy female NYPD detective, that he creates a new character based on her named Nikki Heat and follows her around on her cases for research.

Or is she just paranoid? Castle, still in the phase where he is excited to see her body, uses this as a way to get her to change shirts in front of him. This manages to be charming, not crass. For a couple of investigative geniuses who work with a bunch of detectives, the two are not particularly adept at keeping it on the down low.
The victim initially appears to have had one with an NBA star, but they turn out to be just friends. She was actually dating a fellow reporter. Even though Beckett does date (and subsequently break up with) several different men during her partnership with Castle, she eventually develops feelings for him, though she is reluctant to acknowledge them openly to anyone.
More a cross between Murder She Wrote and Moonlighting than a typical NYPD cop show, Castle has found a viewing audience that most other procedurals never will, largely because of the unquestionable charm of lead actor Nathan Fillion. For as much as Fillion is playing a character on Castle, he’s also leveraging that unique mix of self-effacing goofiness and straight-up niceness that makes him such an endearing actor.

Sometimes it’s worked, sometimes it hasn’t. This season in particular has been especially up and down, with an abundance of perhaps overly gimmicky episodes and a much more pointed push toward maybe, just maybe, hooking Castle up with his sexy-yet-troubled partner Kate Beckett, dutifully played by Stana Katic.
